The LeBron James name might have some magic in South Beach, but a little further up the east coast of Florida not quite as much, apparently.
Saturday at the 12th annual Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach Collector Car Auction, a 2006 Bentley Arnage R luxury sedan that James once owned sold at auction for $65,000. That’s a far cry from its original base price of $212,990 when new. In fact, there was no celebrity premium at all for the maroon sedan.
What may have held the sale price back was a lack of details about the basketball star’s ownership of the car, including exactly how long he owned it. Did he buy it new? Was it his daily driver? No way of knowing from the sale listing.
The entire catalog description of the car in full read, “All power, sunroof, loaded, two tone red and burgundy, tan leather interior, custom radio, mini refrigerator, once owned by LeBron James of the Miami Heat and comes with copy of title in his name. 15,367 original miles.”
The LeBron name wasn’t enough to motivate any buyers to pay a premium for the big British sedan.Barrett-Jackson, Cars, LeBron James, Palm Beach
