Stewart Secures First Victory Of ’13

The 2013 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing, made its lone visit to Minnesota on Saturday for the ninth round of the season from Millville’s Spring Creek MX Park. With temperatures cooler than usual in the Midwest, the Red Bull Spring Creek National produced plenty of exciting race action for the 31st annual event.

After a five-year winning streak at Spring Creek, Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey missed the center of the podium on Saturday. However, a Moto 2 win in the 450 Class gave Dungey’s hometown fans a reason to cheer for the Minnesota native. In the end, it was Yoshimura Suzuki’s James Stewart who captured the overall win at the Red Bull Spring Creek National, his first of the 2013 season.

Last round at the Peterson Cat Washougal National, Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto capitalized on a 2-1 moto split over Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey to capture the 450 Class win in his home state of Washington. This Saturday, July 27, Dungey will face Villopoto on his home turf for the Red Bull Spring Creek National in Millville, Minn. for Round 9 of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing.

Mickey Thompson’s ‘68 Streamliner Returns To Bonneville

Danny Thompson, son of late motorsports innovator and entrepreneur Mickey Thompson, has launched a Kickstarter fundraising campaign to return his father’s 1968 streamliner, Challenger II, to the salt course at Bonneville with the intention of breaking the piston-driven world land speed record. Accomplishing that feat requires a speed of at least 450 mph, something Danny believes is possible with upgrades and improvements he and his team have been making to the original vehicle over the past two years.
