Team Sahlen scored its first-ever Daytona Prototype pole Friday, with Dane Cameron taking the team’s No. 42 Riley-BMW to the top spot in qualifying for Saturday’s VisitFlorida.com Sports Car 250 at Road America.
Cameron reeled off a best lap of 2:00.028 in the 15-minute session, edging out the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Corvette DP of Jordan Taylor by 0.547 seconds. The No. 01 Chip Ganassi Racing Riley-BMW of Memo Rojas qualified third overall and in class.
“It’s tough coming to these places and having no information,” said Cameron, who along with the team are in their first year of DP competition. “I never had been in a DP at Road America and neither had the team, so we didn’t really have any idea what to do.
“We had just been drawing what we’ve learned and what has been working so far. This weekend we showed up pretty good and we were kinda quickest out of the gate.”GRAND-AM, Sports Cars, Team Sahlen
