F1: Flashback Friday – Coulthard And Red Bull Racing Tear Up Texas

Everything is bigger in Texas – at least when Red Bull is involved.

Flashback to August, 2011, when David Coulthard drove a showcar across Austin, Texas, putting on a display of raw power and Texas-sized emotion.

Coulthard and the Red Bull crew ripped through Red McCombs’ ranch, did donuts in front of the Texas State Capitol building in Austin and became the first race car to drive on the , which held the inaugural F1 United States Grand Prix one year later.

MotoGP: Marquez Quickest As Opening Day At Valencia Concludes

Championship leader Marc Marquez was once again the man to beat on Friday at Valencia, as the rookie set a best time of 1:31.220 to top the combined timesheets.

Despite windy conditions, Marquez managed to up his pace late in the session – coming within four-tenths of ’s pole record of 1’30.844 from last year.

Pedrosa trailed his Repsol Honda teammate by 0.066 seconds with 0.158 seconds off the pace in third.

Nicky Hayden admits that he is not happy with the results he has had during his stint with Ducati, and is ready for a fresh start with Power Electronics Aspar next season.

Since his move to Ducati in 2009, the American has only scored three podium finishes and has failed to finish better than seventh in the championship standings.

“If I’m completely honest, I look back and don’t say it with regrets, but I can’t really be happy about the five years,” Hayden said in a sit-down interview with Gavin Emmett. “Results wise, it just wasn’t enough. That’s bitter. There will definitely be a little bitter taste in my mouth that we couldn’t accomplish more, especially in the last year or two.”

Alexander Rossi powered to his maiden GP2 victory Saturday at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, becoming the first American to score a win in the F1 feeder series.

Rossi, who is trying to become the first American to compete in F1 since Scott Speed in 2007, converted his first career pole into spectacular race form, besting Britain’s and Sweden’s Marcus Ericsson in the 29-lap feature.

Ed Bolian and his two friends have shattered the record time for a New York City to California road trip, evading police and traffic to make the 2,800-mile trek in under 29 hours.

“I’ve wanted to break the record since I was 18 years old,” Bolian told Jalopnik.com. “This was always to me sort of the holy grail of American automotive culture.”

The 27-year-old Lamborghini sales director from Georgia was joined by co-driver Dave Black and support passenger Dan Huang.
