V8: Winterbottom, Richards Win Thrilling Bathurst 1000

Mark Winterbottom and won the Bathurst 1000 on Sunday by less than half a second from defending champions Jamie Whincup and , giving the troubled Ford factory team its first win in Australia’s leading touring car race.

Winterbottom held his nerve over the final laps of the Mount Panorama circuit to beat Whincup, in a Holden Commodore, by 0.47 seconds, claiming his first win in 10 starts in the endurance race and giving Richards his third Bathurst title.

Whincup, who won last year’s 50th edition by 0.31 seconds, drew alongside Winterbottom’s Ford Falcon a few corners from home but a momentary loss of traction allowed Winterbottom to draw clear and claim the checkered flag.

After leading for much of Sunday’s Japanese Grand Prix, Romain Grosjean admitted he was starting to think about his maiden Formula One victory.

Grosjean was bidding to become the first French driver to win a Grand Prix since Olivier Panis at Monaco in 1996. He appeared to be on his way until he was passed by Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel on the 41st lap of Sunday’s race at .

Vettel won the race for his fourth win in the past five races in Japan and his ninth win of the season. Vettel’s teammate Mark Webber then passed Grosjean on the penultimate lap to leave the Lotus driver with a third-place finish.

F1: Vettel Inches Closer To Title With Japanese Grand Prix Victory

Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel won the Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday but will have to wait to seal a fourth-straight Formula One title as nearest rival finished fourth.

Vettel surged into the lead on the 41st lap and led a Red Bull one-two ahead of teammate by 7.1 seconds. Webber, who started from pole position, passed Lotus’ on the penultimate lap. Grosjean led much of the race but could not take his maiden F1 victory and finished third.

It was Vettel’s fourth win in the past five races at and his ninth win of the season.

Ferrari driver says keeping the 2013 Formula One title chase alive will not be his top priority in Sunday’s Japanese Grand Prix.

Championship leader would clinch his fourth straight title on Sunday if the Red Bull driver wins and Alonso, his closest rival, finishes ninth or worse.

However, Alonso said he is more concerned with the race for the constructors’ championship. Ferrari has 284 points, just one ahead of Mercedes with five races left.

F1: Webber On Pole For Japanese Grand Prix

Red Bull driver claimed pole position on Saturday for the Japanese Grand Prix, qualifying ahead of his teammate and runaway championship leader for the first time this season.

Webber clocked a time of 1 minute, 30.975 seconds at the circuit, with Vettel just under two-tenths of a second behind in second place after struggling with his KERS power-boost system.
