Marc Marquez of Spain pulled off a remarkable comeback at the French Grand Prix on Sunday to earn his fifth win in as many races this season.

Marquez slipped to 10th place on the opening lap despite taking pole position on Saturday, but the reigning world champion quickly made up ground on the Bugatti track and overtook of Italy on the 13th lap before pulling away.

The American, Colombian and Brazilian who have celebrated some of their biggest career moments at Indianapolis each made daring runs over the final 80 minutes Saturday to take the top three seeds heading into Sunday’s Indianapolis 500 shootout. Carpenter finished first with a four-lap qualifying average of 230.661 mph. Munoz was second at 230.460.

James Hinchcliffe’s tough start is getting more clouded.

E.J. Viso replaced the injured Canadian on Sunday in the opening practice for the Indianapolis 500 and it’s still unclear when the popular Hinchcliffe will turn his first laps on the famed 2.5-mile oval.

Roger Penske’s team got off to a fast start on a slow day at Indianapolis.

Less than 24 hours after working feverishly to convert three cars from road-course setups to oval setups, the winningest owner in Indianapolis 500 swept the top three spots on the first day of practice Sunday.

Australia’s Will Power finished with a fast lap of 223.057 mph, Colombia’s was second at 222.502 and Brazil’s Helio Castroneves was third at 222.373. Only three other drivers topped 222.

Ferrari drivers and staff have gathered to send a message of hope to Michael Schumacher and commemorate his first Ferrari Formula One victory at the Spanish Grand Prix with the team he led to five world championships.

Drivers Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen flanked new team principal Marco Mattiacci among about a hundred team members in front of a sign saying “Remembering your first win with us (hash)forzamichael.”
