IMSA, ACO Announce LMP2, Daytona Prototype Cars Eligible Through 2016

Following a four-hour steering committee meeting at between officials from the International Motor Sports Association () and the Automobile Club l’Ouest (ACO), both organizations today confirmed a collaborative decision that cars eligible for the Prototype class in the and the LM P2 category internationally will remain so through the conclusion of the 2016 season.

Set to debut next year, the Prototype class in the IMSA-sanctioned TUDOR United SportsCar Championship will include cars currently competing in the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series’ DP class, as well as P2 cars and the new DeltaWing DWC13 from the presented by Tequila Patrón (ALMS). IMSA officials are in the final stages of computer simulations and wind-tunnel testing of the three different types of prototype race cars. On-track testing will soon begin for balance of performance.

Texas-Sized 7th Straight Win For Graf, Luhr

Lucas Luhr and Klaus Graf cruised to their seventh consecutive presented by Tequila Patrón victory Saturday in the International Sports Car Weekend race, lapping the field twice at .

Luhr and Graf led all the way in the No. 6 Muscle Milk Pickett Racing HPD ARX-03c, completing 83 laps over the two-hour, 45-minute race. Luhr extended his ALMS-leading victory total to 48. The race ran start to finish under the green flag.

With the ALMS competitors racing on the sparkling 3.4-mile layout for the first time, teams had the opportunity to test on Tuesday and Thursday under warm conditions.  Muscle Milk Pickett Racing opted not to test – taking to the track for the first time on a rainy Friday for practice and qualifying.

Rain Doesn’t Slow Luhr, Franchitti In ALMS Qualifying At COTA

Lucas Luhr captured his 22nd pole in P1 qualifying, running a lap of two minutes, 7.851 seconds (95.736 mph) in the No. 6 Pickett Racing Muscle Milk HPD ARX-03c. He and co-driver – who have already wrapped up the P1 championship – will be seeking their sixth consecutive victory in Saturday’s two-hour, 45-minute race.

Luhr was joined by Marino Franchitti and Renger van der Zande in winning pole positions for the prototype classes for the race, Round 7 of 10 on the 2013 schedule.

Edwards Paces GT Practice At Road America

John Edwards saved his best for last in Friday’s second practice session for the Orion Energy Systems 245 at . Edwards lapped the 4.048-mile circuit in 2:04.711 (116.853 mph) in the No. 56 BMW North America, LLC/Crowne Plaza BMW Z4 GTE. His best lap came in the final minute of the session, knocking Marc Goossens – who led the day’s first session – out of the top spot in GT.

kept the No. 6 Muscle Milk HPD ARX-03c on top of the overall charts with a lap of 1:52.106 (129.991 mph), 5.467 seconds ahead of Chris McMurry in the No. 16 Mazda/Thetford/Norcold Lola B12/60 Mazda.

Quickest in the P2 class was Johannes van Overbeek in the No. 02 Tequila Patrón HPD ARX-03b at 1:57.573 (123.947 mph). Simon Pagenaud, 1:57.969 (123.531 mph), and Marino Franchitti, 1:58.407 (123.074 mph) rounded out the top three.
