Mercedes has confirmed that its technical director Bob Bell will leave the team in November, having tendered his resignation last December.

His departure will streamline an organization that has looked a little top heavy on the technical side, especially now that the complex transition from the 2013 to 2014 rules has been undertaken, and so successfully.

Stefano Domenicali has resigned as team principal of Ferrari in the wake of the disappointing start to the team’s 2014 season.

He will be replaced by high-flying Ferrari road car executive , who will be in China next weekend.

F1: Hamilton, Mercedes fast and reliable in Bahrain test

Lewis Hamilton set the pace for Mercedes on the second and final day of the Bahrain F1 test, and the Briton also ran more laps than any other driver as several rivals ran limited mileage.

All teams ran their regular race drivers on Wednesday, with the exception of Sauber (which used Giedo van der Garde), and Williams (which used Felipe Nasr for its tire testing).

Rosberg on top as testing gets underway in Bahrain

After a break of just one day the teams were back in action in Bahrain for the start of the first of four two-day in-season tests.

All the teams ran their regular race drivers today with the exceptions of Sauber, who used Sergey Sirotkin, and Caterham, who ran Robin Frijns. All teams have to devote one of their eight days to Pirelli, and today it was the turn of Caterham. For everyone else it was a valuable chance to catch their breath between races, try new parts, and work on setups.

Mercedes F1 bosses and were both delighted that the exciting went some way to silence critics of the 2014 rules.

Bernie Ecclestone and chief Luca Di Montezomolo had both been critical of the new power units in the hours before the race.
