Porsche AG and Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) have announced the sports car marque will field a two-car factory team named PORSCHE NORTH AMERICA throughout next year’s inaugural TUDOR United SportsCar Racing championship.

Rain Doesn’t Slow Luhr, Franchitti In ALMS Qualifying At COTA

Lucas Luhr captured his 22nd pole in P1 qualifying, running a lap of two minutes, 7.851 seconds (95.736 mph) in the No. 6 Pickett Racing Muscle Milk HPD ARX-03c. He and co-driver Klaus Graf – who have already wrapped up the P1 championship – will be seeking their sixth consecutive victory in Saturday’s two-hour, 45-minute race.

Luhr was joined by Marino Franchitti and Renger van der Zande in winning pole positions for the prototype classes for the race, Round 7 of 10 on the 2013 schedule.

The International Motor Sports Association () announced Thursday that TUDOR — an innovative and retro-chic brand — has been named entitlement partner for the next five years of what now will be known as the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship. The announcement this morning precedes TUDOR’s official U.S. launch this evening during New York Fashion Week.

“The 2014 season will feature the rebirth and revitalization of sports car racing in North America, and therefore it’s the ideal time to introduce a premium watch brand like TUDOR to our U.S. fans and partners, as well as further solidify our relationship with the international motorsports community,” said IMSA CEO Ed Bennett. “This is a natural progression of the fantastic relationship we’ve cherished for decades with our partners at Rolex.

Video: Terrifying First Lap Wreck – ALMS Baltimore

Saturday’s saw several drivers suffer big crashes, but none worse than the multi-car wreck on the very first lap.

A mixup between the two P1 cars - Muscle Milk Pickett Racing and Dyson Racing - backed up the field on the initial restart, leading to a massive six-car pileup.
