Franchitti, Dixon To Drive Second Ganassi DP In Monterey

In an effort to bolster its Daytona Prototype title attack, Chip Ganassi Racing will field a second Riley-BMW in next month’s Continental Tire Sports Car Festival at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca (Live!, FOX Sports 1).

The multi-time and defending DP champions confirmed Monday that two-time IndyCar Series champion Scott Dixon and three-time Indianapolis 500 winner Dario Franchitti will pilot the No. 02 entry, which will carry sponsorship from Cessna.

In the biggest driver shakeup of the year, Guy Cosmo has joined Level 5 Motorsports for the remainder of the American Le Mans Series season.

News broke Monday morning that the former ALMS Rookie-of-the-Year had ended his nearly four-year relationship with Extreme Speed Motorsports, which most recently saw Cosmo go head-to-head with Level 5 in the P2 category.

SPEED.com can confirm the 35-year-old has now joined the rival Scott Tucker-owned operation and will drive one of the team’s HPD ARX-03b cars beginning with this weekend’s Grand Prix of Baltimore.

Starworks Motorsport is entering the remaining four rounds of the American Le Mans Series in the PC category. With the team taking delivery of a second PC car shortly, the plan is to also enter the PC class alongside its two Daytona Prototypes in the new United Sports Car Racing series for 2014.

The Fort Lauderdale squad has purchased the ORECA FLM09 from RSR Racing. Run by Paul Gentilozzi and his sons John and Tony, the team is currently third in the ALMS team standings.

The No. 8 Toyota TS030 Hybrid of Stephane Sarrazin, Anthony Davidson and Sebastien Buemi finished second in the twice-around-the-clock endurance classic, just one lap behind the race-winning Audi.

Lewis Hamilton was in something of a low key mood at Spa after dropping from pole to third place, thus losing points to both Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso in the title fight.

Hamilton clearly wasn’t happy about being overtaken first by Vettel and then Alonso, and not having the speed with which to hold on to either of his rivals.
