It’s been a long time since Texas Tech basketball was something to get excited about.

Getting students and locals to pack the United Spirit Arena to support their team has been difficult since Bob Knight retired in 2008.

First-year coach Tubby Smith is doing everything he can to bring the program back to life.

Before the Red Raiders hosted No. 12 Baylor on Wednesday, Smith stopped by the student union on campus to treat students to lunch.

In return, the student body showed up in full force to help Texas Tech earn its first win over a nationally ranked oppenent since 2009.

Will Smith continue to buy lunch the rest of the season?

"I might be broke before the year is over," Smith told RedRaiderSports.com. "I spent a lot of money. If that’s what it takes, we’ll be feeding a lot of students."

If the Red Raiders keep winning, that’s all it will take.
