Texas and Texas A&M’s rivalry ready for brief return

Texas and Texas A&M have faced off only in men’s tennis since the Aggies left the Big 12 for the SEC in 2012.

The rivalry’s back on this weekend on the baseball diamond with stakes that are plenty high.

The Lone Star rivals will face off Friday at 3 p.m. in the Houston Regional of the NCAA Baseball Tournament.

Texas earned the No. 2 seed in the four-team regional hosted by Rice. Texas A&M earned the No. 3 seed.

The NCAA most often brackets teams in regionals based on location, and this year, that means a heated weekend in Houston.

Elsewhere in the bracket, TCU earned No. 7 of eight national seeds and as the No. 1 seed in the Fort Worth Regional, will host No. 4 Siena. Dallas Baptist and Sam Houston State will also be in Fort Worth as the Nos. 2 and 3 seeds, respectively.

Texas Tech is the No. 2 seed in the Coral Gables Regional, hosted by Miami. The Red Raiders face Columbia on Friday.

Oklahoma State will host Cal State Fullerton, Nebraska and Binghamton in the Stillwater Regional. The Cowboys face Binghamton on Friday at 6 p.m.
