Source: Briles agrees to extension with Baylor

After bringing Baylor back to national prominence, Art Briles has agreed to a contract extension with the university, a source confirmed Tuesday with FOXSportsSouthwest.com.

Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Baylor is coming off a 7-5 season and will take on UCLA in the Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl on Dec. 27.

Briles came to Waco after a successful run at the University of Houston, where he coached quarterbacks Kevin Kolb and Case Keenum to impressive seasons.

At Baylor, Briles returned Baylor to national-level exposure last season on the arm of Robert Griffin III, leading Baylor to their first 10-win season since 1980.

On Nov. 17, Briles led the Bears to the school’s first-ever victory over a team ranked No. 1 in the country when they upset Kansas State 52-24 at Floyd Casey Stadium.

Briles has won 17 conference games in his five seasons at Baylor. The Bears won only 11 Big 12 games over the previous 12 seasons.
