According to Kirk Bohls of the Austin American-Statesman, Texas Tech and Texas A&M have a mutual interest in renewing its rivalry on the football field.
Nice chat with Texas Tech AD Kirby Hocutt. He said TT, A&M have "mutual interest" in scheduling football game "2020 or beyond."— kbohls (@kbohls) June 17, 2014
The century-old traditional Thanksgiving week game against the Longhorns was the annual headliner in Texas, but the in-state rivalry with the Red Raiders was just as heated before the Aggies left for the SEC in 2012.
There was bad blood between the two fan bases during their days in the Big 12 and old Southwest Conference, but it could be more of a friendly rivalry if they meet again. Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury was the offensive coordinator at Texas A&M for one season under Kevin Sumlin, and the two also worked together at the University of Houston.
Texas has a lopsided 76-37-5 series lead over Texas A&M, but Aggies have a much tighter battle against Texas Tech with 37-32-1 advantage.
