Report: Rockets targeting Howard and Paul

The Houston Rockets are very interested in Dwight Howard. That much we know already.

But a report on Monday indicated that the team is not putting all of its eggs in one free-agent basket.

The Houston Chronicle reports on Monday that the Rockets will also be going after point guard Chris Paul this summer when free agency opens on July 1.

The Rockets have been connected for some time now to Howard, but this is the first mention of Houston also targeting Paul.

Houston would still need to clear some cap space to be able to offer either player a max contract.

According to the report, an insider with knowledge of the Rockets’ plans called the pursuit of Howard and Paul their “targets No. 1 and 1A.”

The report also indicates that Howard has an interest in playing for Rockets head coach Kevin McHale and assistant coach J.B. Bickerstaff.
