Nathan is the most famous baseball player from the New York school, which is making its first-ever trip to the College World Series. The school sent a box of caps to the clubhouse and they were mandatory gear for those players who were lucky enough to get one.
Michael Young, Ian Kinsler, Nelson Cruz and Mike Napoli were a few of the fortunate ones to nab a cap.
Nathan, who was a shortstop at Stony Brook, was glad to see his team supporting his college even if he was forced to wear standard gear in BP.
"I don't even have one yet,” Nathan said. "I told the guys to grab what we can. I already sent a text saying we need some more blue Wolves hats because they tend to be the favorites."
Nathan didn’t request the caps but found out Wednesday a package of them were on the way to the club.
"Hopefully the new supply gets here quick," Nathan said.
Stony Brook, which beat LSU for the World Series berth, opens play Friday in Omaha against UCLA. The Seawolves had seven players drafted in the first-year player draft, including catcher Patrick Cantwell, who was picked in the third round by the Rangers.
