The Texas Rangers put a second member of their Opening Day infield on the disabled list Thursday as Mitch Moreland is out with a strained right hamstring.
Texas has called up first baseman Chris McGuiness from Round Rock to take Moreland’s roster spot. To clear room on the 40-man roster for McGuiness the Rangers transferred right-hander Colby Lewis to the 60-day DL.
Moreland hurt himself running the bases in the seventh inning Wednesday night in Boston. He flew back to Texas Thursday morning and had an MRI.
Moreland is batting .288 with 12 home runs and 29 RBI and is among the American League leaders in slugging percentage.
McGuiness, who was originally acquired in the Jarrod Saltalamacchia trade with Boston in 2010, was batting .275 with six home runs and 34 RBI for Round Rock. The Rangers lost him to Cleveland last December in the Rule 5 draft but he was returned to the Rangers in March.
Moreland joins Ian Kinsler on the disabled list.
Moreland missed 31 games in 2012 for a strained left hamstring.
