Rangers complete deal for Garza, send Ramirez to Cubs

Rangers complete the trade for Matt Garza Friday by sending RHP Neil Ramirez to the Cubs.

The Texas Rangers completed the trade for Matt Garza Friday by sending right-handed pitcher Neil Ramirez to the Chicago Cubs.

Ramirez has spent the entire season at Double A Frisco, going 9-3 with a 3.84 ERA. He led the Texas League in strikeouts with 127. He will remain in Double A with the Cubs, who have assigned him to Double-A Tennessee.

When the trade was made, Ramirez was expected to be the player to be named later but he was dealing with a sore shoulder at the time. When the July 22 trade was made, there was a possibility that the Cubs would have received two additional players.

With Ramirez in the mix, the trade becomes Garza for Ramirez, right-handers Justin Grimm and C.J. Edwards and infielder Mike Olt.

Ramirez went to big-league camp last year with the Rangers and bounced between Double and Triple A. He was a supplemental pick by the Rangers in the 2007 draft.
