Oklahoma to start Bell at QB, Knight out with knee injury

Quarterback Blake Bell will start for Oklahoma on Saturday against Tulsa after Trevor Knight suffered a bruised knee, Bob Stoops said on Monday morning.

Knight will miss 1-2 weeks after suffering the injury in the second half of Oklahoma’s 16-7 win over West Virginia.

Bell replaced Knight early in the fourth quarter after Knight went 10-of-20 for 119 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. He also lost a fumble, but rushed for 42 yards on seven carries.

Stoops said Monday the injury and his performance led to Bell getting his first meaningful action of the season.

“The bottom line was we needed to do something different,” Stoops said.

Bell’s lone pass fell incomplete, and he rushed twice for 21 yards after replacing Knight. Quarterback Kendal Thompson will also return to practice today after breaking his foot during fall camp.
