The Oklahoma Board of Regents bumped up football coach Bob Stoops' salary and also approved the University to renovate and modernize the school's football stadium.
Stoops will make $5 million next season, ahead of the scheduled raise he was set to get in 2016. Stoops' current contract will increase to a total of $39.9 million over seven years and will run through 2020.
The Regents also voted to proceed with the development and plans that will ultimately be a $370 million project to Gaylord Family -- Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. Among the changes will be closing in the south endzone.
No state-appropriated funds and no funds from student tuitions will be used. Most of the project will be funded by private donations.
Plans include a 46,000-square foot fan plaza and a covered upper concourse. There will also be a new 50,000-square-foot space for student athletes that will include a new weight room and conditioning center.
