McCray's return should help Cowboys' depth at safety
NOV 01, 2013 6:27p ET
McCray, who was sidelined with hip and toe injuries, was only a limited participant and is listed as questionable (50-50) for Sunday's game against the Vikings.
But if McCray, who also plays special teams, can contribute as a backup at free safety it will bolster the depth in an area that needs some.
Starting free safety Barry Church has been limited all week with a hamstring problem and is listed as probable. Starting strong safety J.J. Wilcox is out with a knee injury, meaning undrafted rookie Jeff Heath will likely get his second NFL start Sunday.
Another undrafted rookie, Jakar Hamilton, had been the only healthy backup at safety. Hamilton has appeared in one game.
The secondary will also be without starting cornerback Morris Claiborne who has an injured hamstring.
Defensive end DeMarcus Ware (thigh) and receiver Miles Austin (hamstring) did not practice again because of lingering injuries. Both are listed as doubtful for Sunday
