Longhorns coach Strong: QB Ash out ‘indefinitely’

Texas quarterback David Ash is out indefinitely and presumably will not play on Saturday vs. UCLA, coach Charlie Strong said on Monday.

"Tyrone (Swoopes) is our quarterback," Strong said.

Strong was impressed with Swoopes’ performance in a 41-7 loss to BYU on Saturday. Swoopes completed his first seven passes and finished 20 of 31 for 176 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

"With it being a first time start, I was really pleased with how he played," Strong said Monday.

Ash played in Texas’ season-opening win against North Texas, but called the coaching staff hours after the game complaining of headaches and dizziness, which are common symptoms of a concussion.

Ash missed 10 games in 2013 with head injuries.
