ARLINGTON, Texas – Ian Kinsler continues to make progress in his bid to get back into the Texas Rangers lineup.
Kinsler, who has been sidelined since last month because of a stress reaction in his right ribs, worked with manager Ron Washington again Tuesday.
Kinsler will work on fielding double plays Thursday and could take batting practice, which would be the final step before he goes out on a rehab process.
Kinsler, who ramped up the intensity of his workout with Washington, would like to accelerate the process.
“I’d like to be taking BP by tomorrow,” Kinsler said. “Hopefully just one day of BP and then rehab. Thursday would be nice. That would be ideal.”
Washington wouldn’t rule out Kinsler taking batting practice Wednesday but the club wants to be careful with their second baseman. Washington said he thought once Kinsler went out on a rehab assignment, he’d need two games before he’d be able to re-join the Rangers.
Kinsler went on the disabled list May 19 with what was then termed a right intercostal strain.
