Jerry Jones talks hunting and 'sweet nothings'

Opinions about his current team weren't on the menu when the Cowboys owner and general manager discussed a wide range of topics with Bonnie-Jill Laflin, a former Cowboys cheerleader. Along with saying that he calls the Cowboys Cheerleaders his "sweet nothings," Jones talked about past hunting trips that went from Thanksgiving until Christmas, allowing Emmitt Smith to sit in on some of Jones' business calls and his thoughts on his "Dallas" TV appearance.
Here are a few highlights of the interview that can be read at ESPN.com.
Before owning the Cowboys, Jones said he'd frequently go on hunting trips.
"I would take my business [clients] on Thanksgiving and go into the darkest spots in Arkansas," Jones said in the interview. "I would grow a beard and not come out till Santa Claus came."
While discussing his relationships with Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin and Smith, Jones mentioned Smith's interest in the sports business world.
"I can remember like it was yesterday when he came to me and asked if he could slide into the back of the office and listen to me on the phone on his breaks during training camp," Jones recalled. "He was hoping to be exposed to some of the business aspects of the sports industry. At first I was a little hesitant, but then it worked out and he did it for several years."
Earlier in his answer about The Triplets, Jones explained how he views his relationships with all players.
"One of the reasons I do what I do is because I don't look in the mirror and think, 'I'm your age' or the players' age, although sometimes I act it," he said. "I take some of the things that have happened to me and, as a friend, share my experiences."
Jones appeared as himself in an episode of "Dallas" this year. The scene was filmed in a suite at Cowboys Stadium during a game last season.
"I enjoyed my scene with J.R. Ewing (Larry Hagman), but I'm particularly excited that they showed different perspectives, different views of the stadium," Jones said. "I especially liked the scene with the helicopter flying into the stadium. I personally walked off the measurements and had the helicopter pad put in."
