Brent flipped his 2007 Mercedes-Benz early Saturday morning after he struck a curb on an Irving road. Brown, Brent's good friend and roommate, was a passenger in the vehicle. Brent was arrested on charges of intoxication manslaughter and released on a $500,000 bond Sunday afternoon.
Garrett said he met with Brent Monday and noted that the 24-year-old was "obviously very distraught about the situation." Garrett also said that he anticipates Brent being at a Tuesday memorial service for Brown.
"We want to embrace Josh and let him know that this is a good place for him," Garrett said. "Being around Valley Ranch, being around his teammates, coaches is a good thing for him. We certainly anticipate him being there tomorrow. I haven't spoken to him specifically about that but we anticipate it and he's certainly welcome to be there.
"He and Jerry Brown were very close, their families are close. I don't know if you seen the well wishes from Jerry's family in regards to Josh. I think it's a tribute to their friendship for a long, long time, and the relationship they had together."
Garrett said the team didn't know about any specifics regarding Brent's future playing status with the Cowboys or the NFL.
