TCU defensive end Devonte Fields will start against Texas Tech on Thursday, coach Gary Patterson said on Monday. Fields was suspended for two games this offseason for violating team rules, and didn’t play in TCU’s opening-game loss to LSU.
Fields played the third quarter of TCU’s 38-17 win over Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday after Patterson noted last week that he was worried about injury if Fields first action in 2013 came in conference play. Patterson didn’t say when Fields would serve the final quarter of his suspension.
“We’ve got a whole full season for that,” Patterson said.
Fields made one assisted tackle in Saturday’s game. Asked to assess Fields’ performance, Patterson kept it short.
