IRVING, Texas – A bad day in San Diego has apparently cost Cowboys linebacker
Bruce Carter his starting job.
Ernie Sims, who replaced Carter when he was benched last Sunday, said he's listed on the depth chart as the starter at weakside linebacker. Sims said he's been taking practice repetitions with the starters in both the base and nickel defenses.
"On the board they've got me starting," Sims said after practice Thursday. "You never know what happens, but I know one thing: I'm going to prepare as if I'm starting, playing the whole game."
Carter was benched after he was badly beaten twice by Chargers running back Danny Woodhead for touchdown receptions out of the backfield.
No official announcement has been made about replacing Carter in the starting lineup, but Sims isn't waiting around for one.
"I don't know what their plan is, but for right now they've got me splitting reps with Bruce," Sims said. "The way I see it right now, I'm a starter. I feel like I'm going to play the whole game, and I'm going to do good at it."
