Cowboys player injured by weight bar

Cowboys offensive tackle Darrion Weems dropped a 325-pound weight bar on his chest.

A player trying to make an NFL roster can carry a lot of weight on his shoulders. Dallas Cowboys offensive tackle Darrion Weems went one step further by dropping a lot of weight on his chest.

Weems missed practice Sunday and Monday after dropping a 325-pound bench press bar on himself. Weems has been bothered by a thumb injury lately, which likely led to the accident.

"I'm sure it's pretty painful," Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said in comments published by The Dallas Morning News. "We'll see how he is day-to-day."

Garrett was not sure if Weems had a spotter assisting him.

The 6-5, 308-pound Weems, a former standout at Oregon, is attempting to make the roster after being signed off the Broncos' practice squad last December. Weems is with his sixth team in two seasons.
