The two things
Travis Frederick has become known for in Dallas: He was selected by the Cowboys in the first round of this year's NFL Draft, and he has a beard similar to the cast members of "Duck Dynasty."
Well, by next week the Cowboys' rookie center is going to be known only for where he was drafted.
Frederick has agreed to shave his lengthy facial hair on Thursday during The Ben and Skin Show on 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM] while they broadcast live from 3 Stacks Smoke and Tap House in Frisco, Texas.
Frederick has said several times since he was drafted late last month that he planned on cutting the beard he's been growing for about 10 months.
"It's definitely out of control and this will be a good time to start fresh," Frederick said on April 27.
"At Wisconsin it's kind of a thing you do when you play on the Wisconsin offensive line," Frederick said. "It shows a little bit of who we are as a group. I was going to cut it off at the end of the season, then I chose not to. I was going to cut it off after the Rose Bowl and then I didn't. But it's getting cut off."
Despite giving it a slight trim following those comments, Frederick hasn't looked any different. However, after Thursday, his teammates might not recognize him.
After the shaving takes place, Frederick will receive a "Texas-sized BBQ meal." The event is scheduled to take place between 4:30-5:00 p.m. and those attending are encouraged to bring donations of clothing, supplies and non-perishable food items for tornado relief efforts.
