Last week: 5-0 (1.000)
Overall: 31-8 (.795)
I miss Red River games being entertaining. The 2008, 2009 and 2010 games were classics. Everybody knows the deal this time around. Nobody's giving Texas a chance after the Longhorns stumbled to a 1-2 start and lost the last two games by an average of 40 points. I want to believe this game, which could be the 15th and final clash between Bob Stoops and Mack Brown will be a classic. I just can't. Turnovers are the difference. The Sooners defense puts Brown one step closer to leaving his post as the Longhorns' coach. ... Oklahoma 37, Texas 17
Kansas is better at quarterback, but last week's disaster at Texas Tech made me wonder if the Jayhawks are improved on the whole. The Red Raiders made it look easy, and at least last year's team made it hard for a few teams, Tech included. For now, the Horned Frogs don't have the offense to make anything look easy. Losing Tony Pierson is brutal for the Jayhawks, who lose their most consistent offensive weapon this season. ...
TCU 24, Kansas 13
Paul Rhoads seemed to have Tommy Tuberville's number at Texas Tech, but Rhoads' former boss at Auburn won't be in Lubbock this time. Iowa State was 2-1 against Texas Tech during Tuberville's time, but this Tech team is better than any Tuberville fielded and Rhoads' 1-3 Cyclones may be his weakest team in five seasons. Aaron Wimberly and Quenton Bundrage keep Iowa State in the game, but the Red Raiders pull away late with too much depth in the passing game. ... Texas Tech 34, Iowa State 24
I wrote a bit about Baylor's struggles on the road this week, and it's absolutely relevant. That said, I'm a believer in the Bears. The defense is continuing its strong play from the end of last year, and the offense speaks for itself. Is Baylor one of the nation's top 10 teams? We'll find out, but there's no doubt they've looked the part to this point. Saturday will be an intriguing test for this team. Bryce Petty and a stabilizing, deep ground game will dominate K-State's front seven and help the Bears pass (and run) with flying colors. ...
