Allen released by Cowboys after losing starting safety job

It didn’t take long for Will Allen to go from Cowboys starter to out on the street.

Allen, who started the first two games of the season at strong safety, was released by the team Tuesday.

Allen lost his starting job to rookie J.J. Wilcox, who has started the last three games.

Allen, a 10-year veteran, signed with the Cowboys as an unrestricted free agent last March. In five games, he recorded 17 tackles, two pass breakups and one interception.
