Falcons linebacker Sean Weatherspoon, the team’s leading tackler prior to getting injured on Oct. 28, will miss his third straight game, but second-year wide receiver Julio Jones is active for Atlanta’s game for Sunday’s game with Arizona.
Weatherspoon suffered an ankle injury in a 30-17 victory over Philadelphia and has yet to practice. Jones injured his ankle in last Sunday’s 31-27 loss to New Orleans after catching a screen pass and missed a large portion of the game, but returned later.
Jones also did not practice all week and head coach Mike Smith had said during the week that both players would be game-time decisions.
Weatherspoon has 58 total tackles and three sacks in seven games.
Jones has 44 catches this season for 703 yards and five touchdowns and has shown big-play capability. In the last three games he has posted catches of 63, 48 and 52 yards.
Against a strong Arizona’s defense, which ranks fifth in the NFL in scoring defense (19.2 per game), ninth in total defense (allowing opponents 320.7 yards per game) and 10th in passing yards per game (194.6), the Falcons definitely will get a boost by having Jones.
