Not so fast, Gus Bus.
The Auburn Tigers, the defending SEC champions, are enjoying the spoils a successful inaugural season under Gus Malzahn, claiming the No. 9 recruiting class nationally, according to Scout. But with one of the top uncommitted recruits in the country considering the Tigers, along with rival Alabama and UCLA, Malzahn's class could have gone over the top.
Rashaan Evans, the No.-1 rated outside linebacker, was set to announce his decision on national TV during Wednesday afternoon's National Signing Day, but it appears as if Auburn jumped the gun. Here is Evans' official Auburn profile:
The only problem? Evans chose Alabama.
The page was quickly taken down.
Auburn, like most schools, builds recruiting profiles for every prospective signee and hides them until the decision is made official. Kirk Sampson, the team's sports information director, tweeted that the post was not intentional:
Auburn Athletics did not prematurely post a bio of a recruit. Bios are pre-built and hidden by code in anticipation of signing day.— Kirk Sampson (@AuburnSID) February 5, 2014
If it's any consolation to Auburn, it did land a five-star linebacker in Tre Williams. Just not a pair of them.
