Green escapes FA punishment

West Ham goalkeeper Robert Green has escaped punishment from the

Football Association following a gesture toward the media at the

end of the Premier League match against Tottenham.

Green made a straight-arm gesture to members of the press as he

left the pitch at Upton Park on Saturday after his inspired display

in the 1-0 win over Spurs, which lifted West Ham off the bottom of

the table.

The 30-year-old Green was heavily criticized in the British

press during the World Cup for fumbling a shot by midfielder Clint

Dempsey into the net in England’s 1-1 draw with the United

States.

The FA will write to Green to remind him of his responsibilities

but will take no further action.

Green has not played for England since the World Cup.
