NEW YORK — Vancouver FC midfielder Sebastian Fernandez was suspended for four games and fined an undisclosed amount by MLS on Tuesday for his behavior after the Whitecaps’ playoff loss to FC Dallas.

Fernandez was issued a red card for violent conduct, which carries an automatic two-game suspension, at the end of the 2-1 loss on Oct. 29 in Dallas.

The midfielder was issued an additional two-game suspension for contact with the referee while protesting a late penalty that led to the winning goal.

Fernandez will sit out the opening four games next season.
