French defender Nicolas Plestan is joining Schalke from Lille on
a three-year contract – the latest in a spate of new arrivals at
the Bundesliga club.
Schalke announced the 29-year-old Plestan’s arrival on Tuesday,
the last day of the transfer window. He has been at Lille since
2003 and played 109 French first-division games there.
Coach Felix Magath is revamping Schalke – releasing costly
veterans and bringing in former Spain striker Raul Gonzalez and
former Germany defender Christoph Metzelder. Other arrivals include
Romanian international Ciprian Deac and Ghana veteran Hans
Atletico Madrid said earlier Tuesday midfielder Jose Manuel
Jurado was moving to Schalke, and Magath said Netherlands forward
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar was set to join from AC Milan.
