‘Ridiculous’ red riles Rutten

Midfielder Engelaar was sent off by referee Bjorn Kuipers early in
the second half for what was deemed to be a dangerous tackle on Luc
Castaignos. PSV were trailing to a Georginio Wijnaldum goal at this
point, and although Ola Toivonen equalised, Feyenoord made their
man advantage count with further strikes from Wijnaldum and
Castaignos. The result saw PSV slip to third in the table behind
Ajax, who were convincing winners over Excelsior, and with three
points to make up on leaders FC Twente with two matches remaining.
Rutten was unable to hide his frustration over the result and the
sending off. “This hurts,” he said. “We played a poor first half,
Feyenoord had the better team. “After the break, we looked more
like ourselves and had greater control but then came the turning
point with the red card. “It was a ridiculous red card. There was
really nothing wrong at all. Orlando was playing the ball. The
television replays show that. Then, theatrics from the opponent and
the referee takes out the red card. “And it was a huge card in
terms of the final result, it could certainly have cost us the
title. “We’ve all failed though, including me. The flair was
missing, this is very disappointing.” PSV are at home to Vitesse
Arnhem on Sunday before rounding off their campaign at FC Groningen
on May 15.
