Uruguay manager Oscar Tabarez believes England lacked an attacking threat during the South American side’s 2-1 win in Group D of the World Cup.
Two goals from Luis Suarez have left England’s hopes of qualifying hanging by a thread, with Roy Hodgson’s side now totally reliant on Italyâs remaining two fixtures â starting with Costa Rica on Friday.
Tabarez believes either side could have won the game in Sao Paulo after praising the efforts of frontman Edinson Cavani.
"Cavani did a tremendous job today. He helped neutralise Steven Gerrard,â he said.
"In my experience in football, even when you plan and organise things, you can still lose.
"England have no weaknesses, but they had difficulties today in reaching our goal area.
"If this was a movie, people probably couldn’t have wished for a better result, at least in Uruguay."
Uruguay head into Tuesdayâs fixture with Italy knowing that qualification is still up for grabs, and Tabarez admits that it could go down to the wire.
"We give a great deal of importance to showing a good attitude in this group,â he added.
"At this level, the difference between winning and losing is infinitesimal â itâs down to the small details."
