River Plate missed a chance to take a share of the Argentine league lead when it drew 1-1 with Olimpo on Sunday in round 16 of the first division.

Olimpo had good chances before Pablo Luguercio headed in just before halftime, although Leonel Vangioni came close to stealing the points for River when his long range shot in the 77th was tipped onto the crossbar by goalkeeper Nereo Champagne.
Maximiliano Meza hit a shot into the top corner of the goal from 30 yards (meters) to open the scoring for Gimnasia in the 3rd minute, with Facundo Pereyra bursting past the last defender and finishing from a tight angle five minutes after halftime to wrap up the game.
