Napoli signs Chile winger Eduardo Vargas

Napoli has announced the signing of Chile winger Eduardo Vargas from Universidad.

In a statement on the club’s website, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis says Vargas has passed medical exams and signed a contract.

Napoli did not divulge financial details, although it reportedly paid a €12 million ($15.7 million) transfer fee.

The 21-year-old Vargas scored 17 goals in 51 matches for Universidad over the past two seasons and also scored twice for Chile in a 3-2 loss to Spain in a friendly in September.

Napoli, which faces Chelsea in the second round of the Champions League, was looking to add depth in attack, where Marek Hamsik, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Edinson Cavani have played constantly.
