Landon Donovan sets new MLS playoffs assists record

Just when you thought there weren't any MLS records left for Landon Donovan to set, he does it again.

On Wednesday, Donovan hit 15 career assists in the playoffs, which is a new MLS record. His lofted ball helped set up Emmanuel Boateng's first goal against Real Salt Lake to open the playoffs, officially earning an assist:

Donovan was previously tied for the lead in playoffs assists with the LA Galaxy's Mauricio Cienfuegos at 14, but Donovan's assist on Wednesday set a new record and put Donovan in sole possession of the top spot.

The 34-year-old, of course, has a few other records to his name. Notably, he retired in 2014 with the record in all-time MLS goals (144) and assists (136). Since he came out of retirement in September, he added to one of those records by scoring a goal in his second match back in action.

Donovan also leads the league in playoffs goals at 25. We'll see if he can add to that one as the Galaxy continue on ...
