Real Madrid manager Rafa Benitez’ future is in the balance Monday as the club is to meet tonight amid multiple reports that the Spaniard will be sacked.
Marca reports that former star Zinedine Zidane, who currently heads up the club’s Castilla reserve side, will take over with Santi Solari joining as his assistant.
Benitez has endured a rocky tenure at the Bernabeu, where he has been dogged by rumors that several senior players have refused to play for the former Liverpool boss. That pressure intensified after Real were hammered 4-0 by arch-rivals Barcelona in the first clasico of the season in November; and grew worse after the team were expelled from the Copa Del Rey over the fielding of an ineligible player.
Sunday, Real Madrid drew 2-2 with Valencia and remain third in La Liga, four points behind cross-town rivals Atletico.
