Champions League winner Inter Milan’s ?48.8 million ($61.5
million) payout was the biggest share of ?746 million ($941
million) distributed by UEFA to the 32 clubs who competed in the
group stage last season.
UEFA says that Inter earned more than ?29 million in prize money
and ?19.6 million from the television rights pool.
Manchester United was the next highest earner with ?45.8 million
– even though it lost to Bayern Munich in the quarterfinals –
because British TV deals are so valuable.
Bayern, which lost in the final, earned almost ?45 million.
Maccabi Haifa got the smallest share with ?8.5 million. It lost
all six group matches and UEFA’s current TV deal in Israel is
