Greece coach: Why don’t Brazilians like us?

RECIFE, Brazil (AP) Greece has surprised many people to make the second round of the World Cup but it hasn’t yet won over the Brazilian fans.

Greece squeezed through to the last 16 with an injury-time penalty for a 2-1 win over Ivory Coast, with the majority of the home fans loudly backing the Africans in Fortaleza.

Ahead of Sunday’s game against Costa Rica in Recife, Greece coach Fernando Santos expects the locals to be cheering for the Central Americans.

Santos says Saturday ”I don’t know why they (Brazilians) don’t like Greece, but anyway.”

It might be because Greece favors a defensive style that goes against Brazilians’ natural tendency to favor open, attacking football.

So Santos promised ”we will attack as much as possible” against Costa Rica.
