Gascoigne could return to management with Garforth

Former England midfielder Paul Gascoigne is in talks with

Garforth Town about becoming manager of the semiprofessional

non-league club.

Garforth, which plays in the eighth tier of English football, is

hoping to hire the 43-year-old Gascoigne in time for a match on

Tuesday.

Gascoigne’s only previous foray into management lasted 39 days

before he was fired by Kettering in 2005.

The 1990 World Cup star’s career was cut short by injuries and

off-field troubles, and he has recently struggled with alcoholism

and mental health problems.

Garforth is famous for signing former Brazil internationals

Socrates and Careca, who each played one match for the club, in

2004 and 2005 respectively. The club is based in northern

England.
