Finland routs San Marino in Euro qualifier

Striker Mikael Forssell scored a hat trick in the second half as

Finland routed San Marino 8-0 for its first win in 2012 European

Championship qualifying on Wednesday.

Finland had lost its three first games in Group E. Winless San

Marino has conceded 29 goals in five qualifiers.

Finland led by only 1-0 at halftime thanks to Mika Vayrynen, but

the inclusion of Jari Litmanen, the team’s most capped player,

boosted the Finns in the second half.

Litmanen scored the sixth goal from a penalty kick in the 70th

minute in what could be his last game for the national team.

Litmanen, who turns 40 in January, has played 137 internationals

and scored 32 times since his debut in 1989.

Kasper Hamalainen, with two, and Roni Porokara also scored.
