FC Dallas surprised injured teammate Mauro Diaz with a champagne shower

When FC Dallas won the Supporters Shield on Sunday, they did it without Mauro Diaz, who suffered a season-ending injury the previous match. But there's little doubt that Diaz's creative influence was a big reason Dallas finished with the best regular season record in MLS.

So, when the players landed back in Dallas very late Sunday night after their match at the LA Galaxy, they went straight to Diaz's house and paid him a surprise visit:

Diaz, getting around on crutches now, is surprised by a shower of champagne and cheers from his teammates, who were still lugging around their bags after getting back from Los Angeles.

The team had already made sure to recognize their leading man earlier in the day, as Maxi Urruti put on a Diaz jersey for the trophy presentation at the StubHub Center in LA. But the late-night visit to Diaz's house was the perfect cherry on top to make the moment all the more awesome.

Diaz had suffered a tragic end to his season last week when he tore his Achilles tendon in stoppage time against the Seattle Sounders. The injury put Dallas' Supporter Shield chances in doubt, but the goalless draw against the LA Galaxy was enough for Dallas' first ever Shield and moved them one step closer to a historic domestic treble.
