FA rejects Kenny’s appeal against 9-month drug ban

The Football Association turned down Ireland goalkeeper Paddy Kenny’s appeal against his nine-month ban for a positive drug test on Tuesday.

The 31-year-old Sheffield United player admitted to the charge last month but had hoped to have the severity of the ban reduced.

“The regulatory commission’s decision to impose a nine-month suspension was an appropriate measure of the seriousness of the offense,” the FA said in a statement.

Traces of ephedrine were found in a urine sample Kenny provided after playing for second-tier English side Sheffield United against Preston in May.

He was banned on Sept. 7, with the suspension backdated to July 22.
