Willy Sagnol has been named as the new coach of Bordeaux and has signed a three-year contract with the Ligue 1 club.
The former France international has been in charge of France's youth teams since 2011, but has now stepped up to senior level.
"FC Girondins de Bordeaux is pleased to welcome Willy Sagnol as new coach of the professional team," a club statement read.
"Supporters, employees and lovers of the Girondins are very pleased to see the start of his coaching career in Bordeaux. We wish him the best of success with the Navy and Whites."
Bordeaux turned to Sagnol, who played 58 times for France between 2000 and 2008 and was a World Cup finalist in 2006, after calling off their pursuit of Real Madrid assistant coach Zinedine Zidane earlier this week.
Bordeaux finished seventh in Ligue 1 last season under Gillot, who previously guided them to the 2013 Coupe de France and twice helped them qualify for the Europa League.
