Cristiano Ronaldo returned to training with Real Madrid on Friday as he tries to recover from injury in time for the Champions League semifinal against Bayern Munich.

A leg muscle injury and a sore left knee have kept Ronaldo sidelined for Madrid's last four games, including its 2-1 win over Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final on Wednesday.

Madrid says defender Marcelo also returned to training as he recovers from injury. Madrid hosts Bayern in the opening leg of their tie on Wednesday.

Ronaldo sat out the second leg of Madrid's quarterfinal against Borussia Dortmund, and after the match Carlo Ancelotti had claimed he was suffering only a minor problem.

"Cristiano was fine, we didn't want to risk him, because of the intensity of the tie, and we didn't have to," Ancelotti said after the game. "Hopefully he's better soon and he is ready for the semifinal. It's not a big problem because if it were, he wouldn't have been on the bench."
